Test Drive #10: Sittin' in the sun, Catchin' all them rays.

The days have gotten longer lately, and hotter. It's been a while since everything has bee so calm but it seems it will actually last. Even more so it looks like with the warm weather has come a few nice editions to the pond and windmill area. fairly large logs and stone benches seem to ring the cool pond and the cold water seems more inviting than ever.  Not far off there are tables lined with picnic foods and even a fire pit that crackles to life as the sun sets. Torches light the area, keeping the darker corners lit and inviting.

The calm life not quite for you? Need a little more excitement?

Well.

Check those boxes and tubs full of water. Each tub of water has a couple hundred water balloons and the boxes all have water guns in them ranging from tiny wimp peashooter types to entire water canons!

So have fun! Soak up the sun, play around with others, do what ever you want!

Black*star stares at her hand for several seconds before moving forward and taking it in his own. He's forgotten about Soul completely now, which is a feat. But he's tired of thinking about Soul. Most of his thoughts for the past several months have been about Soul or how to protect Soul; being around a younger, more innocent looking one doesn't help.

"Years?" he offers hesitantly. "Most of our friends are gone and whoever's left isn't safe to resonate with."

Don't make him talk about Tsubaki leaving. Don't make him talk about Crona. He'll probably cry.

"...All right. Then, would you resonate with me now?"

Resonance is supposed to be safe, it's supposed to be a positive experience. With how messed up Black*Star's soul is and how long it's been...well, the Meisters need to be a bit more careful than usual.

As weird as it is to treat Black*Star of all people with care and caution.

"He's got black blood, you know," Soul says, speaking up. "You sure you want to do that?"

He won't stop her if she's intent. He trusts her to take care of herself, they've been through too much for him to do otherwise. But...

"Maybe I should back you up."

Black*star drops her hand and retreats a little. "Don't let him near me!" he expresses with desperation in his voice. "I don't want him!" The madness sparks up a little bit again. He's never ever had resonation involving his Soul go even slightly well before, so why would this?

He's scared? What exactly has his version of Soul done? Maka doesn't want to think badly of any of her friends (even if some of them can be really annoying) yet the mention of black blood and Black*Star's recoiling is reminding her of that time...

It feels like Soul's eating me alive!

But he wouldn't do that.



But what if some version of him did?

She sighs, shaking her head and raising up an arm to keep him from getting closer.

"I'll be fine. I wouldn't have offered to do it if I didn't want to. It's not like I'm expecting to totally fix everything in one go because that's not how it works." But maybe it would help Black*Star's frame of mind and doubting a little if he had the confirmation that this is all genuine and he's not being tricked.

"But, I am expecting you to pull me back if I start getting lost, Soul."

Soul's getting bad feelings, too. Don't you dare mention Maka, he remembers Black*Star saying. You don't have the right! Then there was the black blood inside the ninja, and the hostility and fear...

What did the other Soul do?! And was it something he himself was capable of?

"Yeah," he says, trying to bury his fears inside and concentrate on this. "I will." He looks at Black*Star now. "I'm not gonna touch you. Don't worry about it."

"You're Soul," Black*Star says, looking at Soul with a glare even as he reaches for Maka's hand again. "He snapped and he killed and I had to cover up his murders and you're going to do the same thing, you can't help it, you're Soul and that's what Soul does."
