Test Drive #9: This world is spinning around me
Food is not a scarce resource in the castle. No one has to worry about going hungry unless they simply choose not to eat. Holding a legitimate feast in the Altar Room for new arrivals doesn't take much save for some coordination and planning among the chefs of the current residents and a little extra from Ozuma.
Simple enough, right? Prepare for their arrival day, pull out some tables in to the vast expanse that is the Altar Room, prep the food and lay it all out as a way to say "Welcome!" to those just now joining. It all goes just fine, with cheery attitudes doing plenty to perk the spirits of those who have been taken from their homes and enough to feed any empty belly and then some. As things start to wind down, though, an uneasy feeling settles over the area.
Seems that someone is irritated that she wasn't invited. Or maybe the Queen is just always crabby and uses the lowered defenses of the castle at large to strike.
The natural light in the room fades and dims, shadows begin oozing out of the stone from multiple portals, and her mocking cackle can be heard from all around. Looks like it's time for a fight--!
Except her attack doesn't end there. She has even more tricks up her sleeve. A few here and there will begin to feel effects much like the tail end of being severely drunk, even if they had absolutely no alcohol. Lack of coordination, slurred words, nausea, blurred vision...
They won't be of any help during this battle, and will likely need protection in all of it.
Good luck, everyone.

Velvet Remedy | OC by way of MLP fanfic | I blame Goldude
Her talent, as it is, is in medicine and the freedom it grants. She's more or less useless in a fight without a gun and she knows it, apart from her anaesthetic bolt spell. Somehow she's less than inclined to fight things that don't register to her lifesense with it.
So instead, she darts among the wounded, casting spells that heal and cure and detox wherever she can.

He nearly drops the roll that he was eating and looks around. Who and what was that?? That was .... terrifying.... ]
Woah..... I don't feel so good....
[ Suddenly he feels woozy uh oh. He's pretty sure that he didn't eat that much! But now he doesn't feel like he can even walk what's going on. ]

But then she heard the cackling, and her blood ran cold for a moment. Oh, no .. she'd been here long enough to know that trouble was afoot. So, she rushed toward the mess hall and tried to see what was going on. It didn't take long for her to spot a familiar face, and with a short gasp, she ran over and knelt beside her friend. ]
Karol! Are you okay?

Tch, the Queen really likes to take cheap shots, doesn't she? Ammy's lips curl over her sharp teeth as a snarl rips through her throat, hurrying toward the first person she sees, to cover and protect them from the oncoming assault. It's a child, a boy she hasn't seen before. It doesn't matter - new or old, young or aged, Ammy will put herself between them and danger at any cost. The hair on her back and neck stands out as she paces back and forth in front of Karol as a line of shadows sizes him (and her) up. Ammy may just appear as a white dog to Karol, but the Great Goddess Amaterasu is ready to do her duty.

Better hop aboard and let the old man deal with this.

Once he decides that a particular type of food isn't poisoned, however, he either tucks into it or sneaks it into one of his many pockets for later. It should be noted that the silverware from the spaces around him seem to have gone mysteriously missing.]
Phillip Gray (Phone Guy) | FNAF series | The Games CRAU | OPEN!
[There had to be a mistake or maybe Phillip did die during the Siege of the Capitol. The other explanation defied a firmly established belief that there were no monsters or powers that be outside of what he had faith in. Or maybe he had been called here because he was needed, that was a little easier to swallow.
The food was just so tempting, so fresh and wonderfully sweet, an oasis in half a year's drought. Thirteen had been running low on nourishment by the tail end of the war, to the point that he and his fox companions, Foxy and Alby, had ventured into the slightly irradiated landscapes with hunting parties. But the Capitol left Phone Guy with a sense of suspicion: nothing this perfect is safe for consumption, one way or the other.]
Foxy, no, not for you.
[There was something wrong with the banquet and more so when Alby, the more sensitive of the pair begins to growl and raise his heckles at the growing shadows. Immediately, Phil grabbed the nearest knife and walked along carefully. Anyone he runs into, he offers a wary smile]

Edna | Tales of Zestiria | OU
She didn't even get a chance to say goodbye.
Plucked right before she could see him one final time. Her big brother, her only family left, gone but not truly gone...a life of suffering in his own malformed body - that of a dragon. She has fallen into despair at the thought of bringing him solace at last, to sever the bonds she had clung to for so long, the hope that there was some way, some way to save him without--]
I'm not in the mood. [The screams of the patrons and the growling of shadowy beasts catch her attention, finally, and Edna glowers at a creeping shadow from under the rim of her umbrella. It's swayed momentarily, then inches closer, claws bared.] I said...I'm not. In. The mood.
[Nope, nothing. Not even a whimper. And it seems more are appearing from the woodwork. Well, if anything, this is a chance to get out some of her frustrations. Hopefully the humans don't mind the ground shaking a little bit... Or, you know what? Nah, she doesn't care. Taking a bite of the her pastry, Edna lobs the rest of it at the first shadow she sees - splat! - then makes a break for it.
Though small, she can dispatch a good handful of the smaller shadows with just a few thrusts and swings of her umbrella, wielding it like a sword and popping it opens to act as a shield. Hell, the thing even fires bullets of energy when she needs to get out of closer range...and those aren't even the good stuff. She knows Earth Searphic artes, but. Ugh. Did someone let Rose into the kitchen again? Because Edna feels sick suddenly, and her head is pounding.]
Come closer, I'll puke on your shoes. [That...may not be an empty threat.]
no subject
...and then it all goes to hell.
Light suddenly fills her eyes and fire leaps to her palms as she looks around for the closest newbie to make sure they're okay.
When she notices Edna, she blinks at the sight of the umbrella-weapon, then puts herself closer, sending fire in a roaring sweep to separate them from a more of the approaching shadows. The girl is tiny, and if she hadn't felt something similar in another, she'd almost mistake her for a child. ...She feels like Zaveid, but... different, somehow.
She'll ask about it later, but for now,]

The sudden interruption doesn't help either.

Well. [She crosses her arms, keeping an eye on the shadows.] This is a nice welcome.

As is, Lapis isn't the only one who decided to be...disinclined to join the revelry. Chara's been hanging back the entire while but now? Now things have decided to be interesting.
Though they're hardly inclined to bother with most of the aptly described inebriated fools, they will gravitate closer to those who weren't total morons- that includes Lapis.

Jasper | Steven Universe
Jasper appears, standing up from her crouched position on the floor. A somewhat crazed grin flourishes on her face. A shadow rises from the ground, and Jasper approaches it with relative calm and smashes it in the face with her forehead. The shadow disperses. With no more shadows to be seen, the orange force of reckoning looks...bored. And irritated. ]
Is that it? This place is worse than that stupid hunk of rock! What a waste of time.
[ when a small shadow spider appears, Jasper presses the heel of her foot into it. The force is astounding. The ground trembles ever so slightly. ]
These enemies are so weak. Give me a real challenge! [ a snarl. Is she being babied? It's. Revolting. ]
no subject
No room to complain at the moment, though. If insanity means you can fight efficiently and keep these things from dragging people away, Rin will keep from commenting.
Sword out, blue flames dancing along the blade, he slashes through a few easily as well. He's less... optimistic about the lacking power from the shadows, knowing good and well that there are far more dangerous ones out there.
A strange sort of bubbling-growl sounds from behind Jasper, belonging to a strange canine-like shadow that is definitely new to the ranks.
Rin recognizes the glow of those teeth, though. It's the same light that came off the Hollowed Assassin's blade.]
Hey! Watch out!
[He darts over and behind the much larger Gem, flaming sword thrown up in defense as the canine-shadow barks and lunges at him, mouth coming in to contact with his weaponry.]
Nn--! Be... careful... if this thing bites you it'll take your strength away!

Pheobe | Pokemon | Hope I'm not too late
"Hey Queen! I am trying to enjoy this food here! Don't be so rude!"
She grabs one of the six pokeballs at her waist and throws it out. In a flash of light a small imp like ghost appears. It smiles and cackles... but suddlenly starts to bop its head and seemed to have trouble standing.
"Sableye, are you ok?!"
If you don't mind an AU.... ?
It's likely feeling a secondary effect of the attack. [Clair's voice is light, steps soft but audible. As far as she knows, this the Pheobe from her world.] There seems to be a number of us who are affected. You should recall it and try another.
[Behind her, one of her pokemon - an ariados? - shifts uneasily, but otherwise doesn't seem affected.] Do you think this is why we were brought here?

Mithos Yggdrasill | Tales of Symphonia
At first, perhaps, he thought this was the afterlife. If it was hell, it was nothing like how he imagined it. He could feel the darkness present in the castle, like he was sitting right in the center of the Ginnungagap with Aselia on one side and Niflheim on the other. But when he looked down, his Cruxis Crystal, miraculously, was fully intact, and despite a bit of soreness that told him it wasn't a dream, it was as if the wounds he received in the fight with Lloyd and the others had never even happened. He could still feel his Cruxis Crystal pumping mana throughout his body as if it were his an extension of his heart. Out of curiosity, he tried to teleport back to Derris-Kharlan once. Naturally, it didn't work. He was stuck here, afterlife or not.
Reluctantly, Mithos followed the instructions to the banquet hall. The sight that laid before him was... well, if this was hell, he could maybe get used to it. The food definitely looked appetitizing, even by his standards; he was, by all accounts, an amazing cook before he had his Cruxis Crystal. Of course, given that his body didn't need to eat, as good as the food looked, he just didn't feel hungry. Glancing behind him, seeing all of the humans in the room - and not one of them seeming to notice or even care that he's a half-elf - he briefly sneered, and turned back to the food. Well, it wasn't as if he had anything better to do. Mithos reached down for an apple, and froze, suddenly hearing the wicked laughter, and feeling the dark presence filling the room.
His bright, blue eyes scanned the room, seeing the shadows appearing. Of Mithos' many powers, controlling monsters was not one of them; technically speaking, monsters proved every bit as much of a threat to Cruxis and the Desians as they did to anyone else. "I am so not in the mood," Mithos quietly complained to himself, some of the first words he's spoken since he arrived here, but it was clear those shadows weren't going to go away voluntarily. Underneath his shirt, his Cruxis Crystal began glowing, as brilliant, translucent energy wings appeared on his back, in a myriad of different colors. Hovering just a foot or so off of ground, his body began glowing, before Mithos suddenly felt his stomach turn. Why was the room... spinning? "Urk... f-fine... you wanna fight? Let's... ugh... make this quick." He was still levitating, but he was a bit lopsided, as if he were leaning forward onto an invisible surface, one heel of his palm pressed to his forehead, as if he had a sudden migraine.
no subject
The sudden lopsided levitating resulted in bumping in to the shoulder of someone nearby, though the cry was not one of irritation at being collided with. It was concerned, worried when it was very clear that Mithos was not doing well. Hands scrambled from the small emperor to keep the floating being from tottering too much in either direction and possibly careening off towards the shadows.
The fact that this person was floating and had translucent wings didn't seem to bother Ioder in the least - he was far more worried about them physically than anything they may have been doing or had attached to their back.
"I don't think you're in any condition to fight!"

Clair | Pokemon AU
[Despite not knowing much, if anything about the food - or the War she'd been dragged into, though the basic explanation was nice, Clair was happy enough to eat the food. A lot of it tasted like the food she knew, and others, while she didn't know what it was, tasted similar enough that she was content.
Until the attacks came, and her reaction is instinctive. Her pokemon were released from their 'balls in flashes of light, and she's almost regretful she doesn't have her whip. No matter, She's finger-clicking, pointing and signalling with the odd vocalisation here and there, quickly directing her pokemon - not just a dragonair, but an ariados, an ampharos, and - is that a furret??? - to where they are needed the most.
One pokeball remains on the belt at her waist.]
Anyone have a polearm? [Just because she has pokemon, doesn't mean she's not trained to fight herself. What kind of tamer would she be? If only she had her whip for better self-defense, had her main Gym Team -
No. She was taught to work with far less than the ideal. You don't get second chances with dragons, and Clair herself is going to defend the incapacitated with her fists if needed.]

Pidge Gunderson | Voltron : Legendary Defender (2016)
[A bouncing leg, a frustrated expression, a hazel-eyed gaze that lacked focus on anyone or anything particular. Pidge was upset about this turn of events, to say the least, and the ill sensation in their stomach was nagging enough that they hadn't made a b-line for the food that looked far more appetizing than what they were used to. Nausea born of worry, upset, anxiety rather than anything ingested.
There were already a number of people here, and the horned one that was supposed to be "in charge" kept getting dragged off from person to person before Pidge had a chance to talk to them. This is a mistake! they wanted to bellow out while demanding they and Keith get returned to their own universe.
Even if that meant being hurled through space with no idea of where they were going to wind up.
Another opening to speak to Ozuma appeared, but Pidge wasn't fast enough. They stomped their foot hard on the ground and let out an annoyed growl, dropping back to where they'd been sitting and jiggling their leg incessantly, gloved fingers now tangled in a mass of brown hair.]
I can't believe this...
no subject
He hasn't had a good meal in ages, it seems. Between being chained up and the arrival of the demons....
Well.
Still, anxiety gnaws at his stomach, making it cramp into knots that block out any hunger he should have.
Where this place is, he does not know. It's not Hylia.
He has awoken into a strange situation.
Something in his blood bubbles at that thought and he thinks to himself that he will probably continue to awaken to strange situations. This, he thinks, will become a trend.
He's lost in this thought, his mind whirling in worry circles, when he nearly walks into Pidge.]

Frey | Rune Factory 4
The fact that she'd woken up alone was probably the first indication of that.
It didn't take a lot of searching for her to find the feast, and when she did, she had to stop and look at it in amazement. Did Porceline go overboard? No, that couldn't be right. If that were the case, half the table would have been eaten already. Plus, nobody who worked or lived in the restaurant were anywhere in sight.
Still, her stomach was growling. She hadn't had breakfast yet, and she could definitely indulge a bit in some of the display. So, she made her way forward and found something to eat. It was pretty good! She didn't know who made it, but it wasn't bad at all.
The food did little to ease her mind of her missing husband and townsfolk, however, and it didn't take long for her to think that maybe she should get up and start looking for them again. As soon as she began to move to stand up, she promptly felt her head swim.
BAM.
Suddenly, there is a twintailed girl on the ground. Her stomach hurt, her head pounded ... clearly, something was wrong, but she couldn't even seem to articulate the words she needed to call for help.
